Happy 2009!
Things were quiet here at the McNeils for New Year’s Eve. Everybody asleep by 9:30 and only two toddler wake-ups during the night (12:30, 1:30, 5:30) — a good night.
Today, between taking down the tree and cleaning up, Neve and I tried to compile a list of ten best and ten worst moments of 2008. Here’s what we came up with:
10 Worst Events of 2008:
10. Red Sox swept ignominiously by Cleveland Indians in ALCS
9. Gasoline hits $5 per gallon
8. Mt. Kelud eruption in Indonesia
7. Olympic swimming doping scandal
6. Moriarty, NM High School bombing
5. Hurricane Dolly hits New Orleans
4. Supreme Court approves AG Mukasey’s parallel federal terror courts
3. Raid on Washington Monument protest site
2. Halloween Terrorist Attacks
1. Bush cancels presidential elections
10 Best Events of 2008:
5. Writers’ strike ends, saving America from scourge of reality television
4. NE Patriots win Superbowl to complete 19-0 perfect season
3. Xin Liu of PRC gives his backup bicycle to Taiwanese competitor who had both his wrecked in Olympic heats
2. Phoenix Lander beams back photos of Martian Arctic and finds possible signs of life in ice
1. Election Day (well Saturday after) March on Washington
OK, so we could only come up with five good events…it’s been a bad year for us. I guess we couldn’t get in a cheerful enough mood.
Help us out. What did we miss?
